Veteran’s Bike Stolen From Mom’s House In Portsmouth

The community is rallying behind a veteran whose bike was stolen from his mom's house in Portsmouth.

David Ware posted about the stolen bike two weeks ago:

Ware, a father of two and Marine veteran, says the bike was stolen on October 10th from the Gosling Meadows Neighborhood.  He reported it to Portsmouth police but there have been no leads.

This is an especially tough time for Ware because the bike is his sole means of transportation to his job in Newington.  The bike is a 2011 Cannondale Trail SL2 and Ware says it would cost over $1700 to replace, according to Seacoast Online.

I spoke with David and he said that he bought the bike when he got back from Afghanistan and it has treated him well for the last few years.  He spent five years in the infantry and was never able to get his license.

Ware tells Seacoast online that he's so appreciative of the response from the community including donations and offers of other bikes:

"The positive response has been overwhelming and I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has shared or donated. I’m honestly at a loss for words and a “thank you” is not enough for this kind of generosity."

A Gofundme has been set up to help replace this veteran's bike and it has already reached almost $4,000!

Ware told me that he was hesitant to set up the GoFundMe but did it at the behest of his friends and can't believe the outpouring of love:

"Honestly. I woke up this morning and saw the jump in donations and I cried, not gonna lie."

Ware also was given a bike to use temporarily, all thanks to the generosity of the Seacoast Community!

Gary Ellmer summed it up best on the Seacoastonline Facebook page saying:

"He’s a Marine brother, and we we take care of our own."
