Creative Portland, the city's official non-profit arts agency, recently upgraded several bus stops around town. The one that is nominated from Portland was created for Creative Portland by Maine resident and Ghana-born Ebenezer Akapo, who uses patterns composed of his native country’s Adinkra symbols into his bus stop design.

“This bus stop evokes joy and hope and cultivates friendship in a city within the whitest state in the nation, which has seen an influx of immigrants from African countries,” said Dinah Minot, executive director of Creative Portland. “At different hours of the day, the shelter design casts shadows of ‘hope’ on the bus shelter patrons and on the passersby.”

The best bus stop contest is in the "March Madness" bracket form. So if Portland wins this round, they will be in the final four bus stops!
