If you are a native of New Hampshire, it might get lost on you just how historically significant New Hampshire is to the history of the U.S.

There are so many places right under our noses that have historical significance and we've compiled 10 of them here for you.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

In Portsmouth, New Hampshire, you may have driven by the U.S.S. Albacore museum countless times, but never stopped to check it out.  The submarine was built by the hardworking engineers and staff at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  The design of the submarine set a precedence of the way subs are made to this day for the entire U.S. Navy.

Peterborough, New Hampshire, a/k/a "Our Town."

If you travel to the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire, you will find the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire.  Established in the early 1900's for artists of all kinds, writers, painters, etc., to come and create their art without the distraction of anything.  They are provided food, shelter and the creative space to give back tot he world the gifts that they have been, in my opinion, divinely given.

Governor Sununu who has served the Granite State for several years says that his favorite place in the entire 603 is the Mount Washington Hotel.  Another magical place located in Bretton Woods.  It looks like the setting of the Shining, but it's not.  Way better and no creepy kids roaming the halls.

Poetry Fan?  NH is rich with poetry history

If you are a fan of poetry, two significant poets made their home here in New Hampshire.  Robert Frost wrote many significant poems at his home in Bennington, New Hampshire and e.e. cummings had a Summer home in Madison, a/k/a Silver Lake, NH.

Truly, especially if you are a history buff, you could spend a couple of weeks in our little state going from one gorgeous spot to the next.
