Granite Staters, take this news however you please: as a sign that the migration of Massachusetts residents to New Hampshire (resulting in a tight housing market) won’t cease any time soon…or that we live in (or near) a pretty nice place.

According to a new study by Livability.com, two New Hampshire cities rank among the 25 best places to live in the Northeast. The site uses an algorithm that considers the following factors:

  • Amenities
  • Economy
  • Demographics
  • Housing
  • Social and Civic Capital
  • Education
  • Health Care
  • Transportation and Infrastructure
  • Remote Readiness

One New Hampshire town on the list is…Portsmouth. According to the study:

“With a technologically savvy and highly educated workforce (more than 55% of the adult population has at least a bachelor’s degree), it’s no wonder Portsmouth enjoys a strong economy. In addition to being a regional high-tech hub, Portsmouth is a major transportation center with the only deep-water port in New Hampshire.”

Livability also cites the town’s proximity to Boston and scenic harbor views (you may even catch a glimpse of a tugboat from a movie and music video featuring John Travolta and Olivia-Newton John).

What the study leaves out are the fun activities, such as seeing a live show at a venue like The Music Hall Lounge, or exploring the city's historic system of tunnels.

Also on the list: Nashua. Livability cites the city’s public art, community theater program, and Symphony. Also mentioned: affordable living and real estate, scenery, and Nashua River Rail Trail and Mine Falls Park (where residents can hike, walk, boat and fish).

Nashua is also home to World Wrestling Entertainment boss Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
