Here in New Hampshire, we get super excited about one of the most fun events on the Seacoast all year long, the Sand Sculpting Classic.  The dates have been announced and this year, it should be even more spectacular because it is the 25th year.

It All Started With One Man and a Quarter

Local Master Sculpture Greg Grady was asked by the U.S. Mint to create a sand sculpture of the newly released New Hampshire quarter for a state celebration, according to Hampton Beach "Official" via Facebook.  It must have been fun because after that, Greg created the Hampton Beach Sand Sculpting Competition.

The Sand is Spread First

It's quite a spectacle from the jump of this event.  The sand itself is brought in first, spread out and the artists get to work.  We are talking a LOT of sand, according to hamptonbeach.org, around 200 tons of the stuff.

According to the Facebook page, there will be 10 piles of sand for 10 master sculptors.  On Saturday of the weekend, you can vote for your favorite from 1-3pm on the beach.  If you've never been, you don't know what you're missing for one, but for two, it's very easy to find.  It's over 200 tons of sand after all.
The "People's Choice" Award is highly coveted and it includes a $1,000 cash prize.

Saturday, the final day of competition, the sculptors wrap up their entries with their final touches. We encourage you to vote for your favorite from 1-3 p.m., to decide the highly coveted "People's Choice" award, which includes a $1,000 cash prize.
All the winners will be announced on the Sea Shell stage at 8pm, followed by fireworks.

It's the Most Beautiful Display of the Summer

If you can't make it that weekend, the sculptures will stay up and viewable to all, including lights for night viewing, until June 23rd.  After that, all protection for the beautiful sculptures will be taken away and Mother Nature will take care of the rest.
Many locals, myself included, never miss this event.  The sculptures will astonish you, especially this 25th anniversary year.
