The Northeast has received a lot of love over the past few years as a destination to work and live.

Specifically, Manchester, New Hampshire has been chosen as Zillow's most popular market for the 2nd consecutive year.

Here are a few reasons why from a local.

Zillow names a few reasons why Manchester has become so attractive.

For example, homes have jumped in value 7.3% with the average home price being $415,000.  With that big number, it still seems low compared to nearby Boston home prices.

Here are a few other reasons why I think that Manchester has made the most popular list for the past 2 years:

No Car Needed in Manchester

Manchester is small enough to get an apartment downtown and walk to your job.  There are plenty of cool spaces in old mill buildings or some offices have living spaces just above their work space.  There are lots of jobs within walking distance.

Work and Go to School

Manchester is home to the University of New Hampshire's Manchester campus.  The school is located in one of the old mill buildings surrounded by grocery stores, (Market Basket), restaurants and shops.  Plenty of places to find employment while you're trying to get a degree.

Great Nightlife

There are plenty of restaurants and bars in downtown Manchester to keep you entertained.  The two local pubs that have been there forever are the Wild Rover and Strange Brew Tavern.  Both places have live music and great beer.  Don't go into these places looking for everything shiny and new.  It's the locals hang, very laid back and super fun.

The Mountains and the Ocean are Close

As with many places in New Hampshire, Manchester is close enough to take a quick trip to the White Mountains or head to the beach.  Hampton Beach is less than an hour away and the Mountains will take you a couple hours.  Far enough away to give you a change of scenery and put you back into nature.
