The 5 Essential Rules For Leaf Peeping in New England
Every fall in New England, we await their arrival. The Leaf Peepers.
Or, as the Family Guy calls them, the Leafers.
There are a few rules that New Englanders would like you to know before you jump in that car to look at our trees:
Obey All Traffic Laws
Please keep your eyes on the road. I understand the brilliance of a bright red Japanese Maple, but if you are the driver, please make sure to admire it from your peripheral vision.
Obey the Speed Limit
When you are traveling on a country road going 10 MPH, the resident following you who drives down that way every single day of their life is going to hate you. Speed up, bub.
Keep Off of Private Property
It might be tempting to ignore that "Private Drive" sign and head down that idyllic looking lane in Northwood, New Hampshire, but.... somebody lives there, so. Don't.
Don't Park in the Middle of the Road
New Englanders have seen plates from New York and New Jersey who just stopped in the middle of the road, peering out of the side windows admiring that huge oak tree. We don't know the rules in New York and New Jersey, so maybe you can do that there, but not here.
Spend All of Your Money in New England
Although we complain about leaf peepers, the one thing that we really love about you is your money. We know we have a lot of stuff that you love like, real Maple Syrup and lobster sweatshirts that say, "I'm a real catch." Hilarious. Buy, buy and buy some more.
