5 Best Hidden Swimming Holes in New Hampshire to Cool You Off This Summer
New Hampshire is great in the summer. There's so many things to do its almost overwhelming, and of course you can't beat our scenery.
Our state proudly boasts some of the best places to swim in the northeast. While there's a tremendous amount of wonderful spots, we've compiled a list of the states best hidden gems that everyone should get to.
1. Ammonoosuc Falls, Crawfords Purchase
The best thing about this site is there are two separate falls, the Lower Ammonoosuc Falls and the upper Ammonoosuc Falls. The lower is a great family spot, with a large pool of water, sliding rocks and spots to jump and sunbathe. The Upper Ammonoosuc Falls is an exciting spot for the more adventurous of us. The Upper Falls sports many chutes and swimmers are advised to swim during low water levels (late summer) and not when water levels are high in the area due to currents. [MAP]
2. Rattle River, Shelburne
The best thing about Rattle River is there are multiple spots all along the river that are great for swimming. It's the perfect spot for those who want a little privacy, and their own swimming hole to claim as their own, if only for an afternoon. Conveniently along the Appalachian Trail. [MAP]
3. Lamprey River, Durham
While slightly more well known by locals, this spot offers more than just a quick dip. Head to Packer's Falls for some canoeing, or to Wiswall Falls for some trout fishing. [MAP]
4. Sculptured Rocks, Groton
This state park on the Cockermouth Rover is an extremely scenic and beautiful spot. Perfect for swimming the spot features various jumps from varying heights, as well as numerous tunnels and rock formations to explore. [MAP]
