Best Beach for Autumn

Yep, while everyone is out enjoying the fall foliage, I find the best time of year to go to the beach is in October and November. There are many factors that go into making it the best time of year for me.  Number one, parking.  Parking is so much easier, and many beaches don’t charge a fee to park in the off-season. No more driving around in circles trying to find a spot.

No people

Well, there are always PEOPLE at the beach year-round, but in the fall, you won’t have to worry about finding a quiet spot to place your chair and listen to the sound of the waves.  You also won’t have to worry about getting hit in the head with a frisbee or listen to kids crying about ice cream and how they don’t want to put on sunscreen.  Hands down the best place to just sit and meditate at a beach in October or November.  One thing you will run into is dogs.  This interruption to my day is always welcome.  I see many dog owners on the beach in the fall and nothing fills me with delight like a welcome from a tail-wagging dog.

Where to go

Many of your favorite summer beaches are ready for you in the fall.  Try Hampton, Rye, Wallis Sands, or Jenness Beach.  You can even take a drive down to the Cape where it is far less crowded in the fall than summer.  While everyone is out looking at the trees, you can enjoy the view on a drive and see the leaves, plus have some peace and quiet and admire the majesty of nature without the crowds.  I plan on hitting up Kennebunk Beach which, in my humble opinion is the best fall beach, this weekend.  That way I can see some leaves on the drive and enjoy some peace.  I can get my exercise on the sidewalk that runs from Gooch’s Beach to past Lord’s Point.  If I see you, I will wave!
