Every now and then you find a diamond in the rough, and you get excited. This is exactly what happened to me a couple of weeks ago while I was walking around Dover on Apple Harvest day.

The thing I love most about Apple Harvest Day is you never quite know who you will meet, what music or sights and sounds, you will see and this year was no exception.

I'm pretty sure, it's safe to say, that no one got up on that Saturday morning and thought they would take a spin around apple harvest day and see if they could get their haircut while walking down the main concourse, which is more commonly known as, Central Avenue. For many guys though this was exactly what happened, and all thanks to some out-of-the-box thinking by local barber shop, The Best of Times.

The Best of Times barber shop is located at 364 central ave and opened it's doors this past January. This was the first Apple Harvest Day they had been a part of and they made quite an impact.

It was hard not to notice their booth, complete with two old style barber shop chairs, a dresser and two very snappily dressed barbers, who were ready and willing to wield a pair of scissors or trimmer and turn any guys head of hair from a disheveled mess into a classic work of art. If this wasn't enough, there was also a barbershop quartet to serenade the client with doo-wop sounds, that set the stage perfectly.

There wasn't a time during the day when those two barber's chairs were empty. I spoke to a couple of the guys while their hair was being manicured and Shawn from Dover told me he had been on his way to work, seen the booth, and realized he needed a haircut. He left with less hair and a big smile on his face after he was given the best of times treatment. The same was true for Bobby who was more than happy to have his haircut whilst being serenaded with some golden oldies.

According to the store's owner, Josh Hynes, classic and timeless haircuts are just one part of the services the shop offers. If you need a shoe shine or a hot towel shave then The Best Of Times is the place to be.

Everyone who stopped and watched was impressed by both the barber's work and the singing of the wonderful barber shop quartet Doo-Wop-DeVille who are normally a nine piece band that will take you back in time. They were a four piece band at Apple Harvest but that did not diminish any of the awesome sounds that drifted across the concourse and set the scene for the Best of Times.

The Best of Times was just one of 400 hundred local businesses that took part in the festival, but it's one that left a last impression on many last Saturday, myself included.

If you've never been to Apple Harvest Day I highly recommend adding it to your calendar for next year. You never know you might end up with a hair cut. If you can't wait until then The Best Of Times is ready, willing and able to assist you in your time of hair needs.
