There is a proposal to build a new 7-story office building overlooking the Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston.  The office building could change the views of not only the Green Monster, but of the Citgo sign too.

The developers, Fenway Sports Group, WS Development and Twin Enterprises are still seeking final approval from the City of Boston.

If you ask me, I'm afraid it would affect the whole skyline.

WCVB reports that the two story parking garage on Lansdown Street in Boston, next to Fenway and the House of Blues, is proposed to come down.

In its place, a new Red Sox Headquarters, a/k/a wicked fancy offices and retail space.

This could impact the views of the Green Monster and the CITGO SIGN!

The proposed building is 129 feet and potentially 250,000 square feet.

The project will cost 1.6 Billion dollars and the final approval is still in the hands of the developers and the City of Boston.

The retail space would create 100's, maybe 1000's of jobs for the City of Boston, but the last time I was there, there were a lot of buildings that were not filled.  Many of them were almost completely vacant near Fenway.  So why mess up the views of our beloved Green Monstah, Kid?

Some fans are wicked p.o.-ed about the proposal.  Here are some things that I've heard die hard Sox fans say:

  • What Ahh Ya Doin’?!
  • Wicked Bad Idea
  • This Ain’t the Fenway We Grew Up With!
  • You can’t even see the game from some seats now, and they wanna build a freakin’ skyscrapahh?
  • Let me guess — they’ll name it the Dunkin’ Office Towah or some crap like that.

I'm old school.  I'm hoping the City of Boston doesn't give the go-ahead, but something tells me that change is inevitable.
