Steve Eldridge, Berwick Town Manager, is hoping to hook up with a brewer in efforts to re-use some of the tannery, as well as build a restaurant on the site.

Berwick took ownership of the former Prime Tanning site so that they could apply for EPA clean up grants.

Once that occurs, the town would then be able to sell the 11 acre site to the primary lien holder, Fund of Jupiter.

In a meeting on Wednesday, representatives for the town and the Fund of Jupiter shared details of how they are beginning to court potential tenants and look at ways to market and develop the property.

Town officials are hoping to get a jump on marketing the property so by the time parcels are cleaned up and ready for reuse they will have potential tenants lined up.

With the recent improvements to Somersworth's downtown, to have the former Prime Tanning site become a destination, that could only be a boon to both downtown areas.
