Developers Looking to Build 400+ Apts in Merrimack NH
The world is changing fast. It seems like not that long ago when the Merrimack Outlets were being built. Now, I just saw a story about the space at the entrance of the Malls, known as Merrimack Park Place, being turned in to apartments.
According to a report in the Union Leader, developers are asking for permission to put up double the amount of apartments as they originally thought. A few years ago, they wanted to build 224 luxury units, but now, with the need and want for housing here in NH, they are asking to build 432 units instead.
Not only are the developers planning on building apartments, but also a 110 room hotel, a restaurant, office space, more retail space and a 1,152 space parking garage.
At the zoning board meeting, according to the report, one member asked how much of a housing shortage does Merrimack have that they need another set of apartments? I'm sure the developers are looking to bring people in from out of town.
People truly are moving out of the big city and in to a more comfortable, affordable place. I'm sure these units, if they get approval, will be a bargain compared to NYC prices or any other big city that these people will be coming from. The Merrimack Outlets are wicked convenient too, right off the highway, so I'm sure "if they build it, they will come."
Although we are seeing the end of the pandemic, I am pretty convinced that we are just seeing the beginning of the changes as a result of it.
