Catch of the Day Could Pay: Fishing Derbies in ME, NH & MA Offer Fun and Funds

You gotta love it when fishing, food and fun all come together to help people in our community.

Because we have many fishermen on the Seacoast of Maine, NH and Massachusetts there are many fishing derbies that offer cash prizes for the biggest catch and provide funds for community non-profits.

The North End Boat Club in Newburyport

The North End Boat Club in Newburyport, Massachusetts has been doing a fishing derby for the past 15 years.  To date, the NEBC has donated over $28K to local charities.

Not only do they donate to local places like the Pettengill House Food Pantry in Amesbury, Our Neighbor's Table in Amesbury and Salisbury, The Pelican Fund in Newburyport and Lucy's Love Bus out of Amesbury, but also individual families who need help.

Many Fishing Derbies Gives to Scholarship Programs

Many fishing derbies give to scholarship programs and other events that help kids and veterans.  Getting the idea that they are really good people trying to do really good things?  These events are a win/win.

Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Fishing Derbies

There are many other fishing derbies in and around the Seacoast area in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

• There is this one run by the State of Massachusetts.
• Another one run by the State of Maine.
• Others run by the State of New Hampshire

What is a Fishing Derby?

From what I know of fishing derbies, fishermen catch fish, sometimes certain kinds, and submit the fish for competition in the derby.  Some derbies are based on the largest fish, others are based on the number of fish caught.

For the North End Boat Club Fishing Derby festivities, there will be food, a 50/50 raffle and great auction items like concert tickets to see Rod Stewart, Jerry Seinfeld and Styx.
