The Patriots are on a bye week this week so it's time to bring out my all time favorite football food: meatloaf sandwiches.

Is there anything more american than meatloaf and football?

This recipe from Food Network's Jeff Mauro is pretty standard. However, here are a few tweaks I would make:

- Ditch the tomato glaze. Sure it's tasty, but you can do better than that. Like BBQ sauce, or mayo.

- No need for crackers; just use Italian bread crumbs.

- If you're having difficulty finding ground veal don't worry about it; using only ground beef is fine.

What you won't find in the recipe are the teams you should root for this weekend since the Pats aren't playing: Miami, Minnesota, Jacksonville, and Arizona (my NFC team).
