If you haven't heard about the Poutine challenge at Chez Vachon in Manchester, NH, it's a doozy.  Maybe you've never heard of Poutine.  I'll tell you about both.

What is Poutine?

Poutine, (pronounced "PUTS-in" in the English accent) is a french Canadian dish (specifically Quebec) that is rich and delicious.  It may sound terrible. but don't knock it until you've tried it.

If you wanted to make poutine, take a bowl of golden delicious french fries, top them with cheese curds and brown gravy, (lots of it) and VOILA!  You have a Classic Canadian comfort food.

The dish is not for the faint of heart... literally.  Even a small serving at your favorite State Fair could be dangerous for the scale, but sometimes, you gotta have it.

So was the case with YouTuber BeardMeatsFood who came to Chez Vachon, 136 Kelley Street, Manchester, NH, a couple of years ago.  At the time, there were only 7 other people in 11 years who had completed the Poutine Challenge at Chez Vachon, according to the YouTuber.

Before you begin, they tell you the rules:

You can't go outside and you can't go into the bathroom during the competition.  (Makes sense.. eyoo.)  You CAN get up from the table and walk around the restaurant if you want to move things around.

The Challenge itself goes like this:

  • You order the 5 pound dish of Poutine
  • A Timer is set for 1 hour
  • Eat the entire dish within that hour

That's it.

You'll get a cool t-shirt that says:

I conquered Chez Vachon's Grand Poutine Challenge, 5 Pounds, 1 Hour

You also get the Poutine for free, your name goes up on a wall of fame and people talk about you from now until forever.

This guy eats the entire dish of Poutine in about 19 minutes.  He didn't even need an hour!  While he was eating, he asked for a Root Beer and when he was finished, he asked for DESSERT.  What the?

Believe it or not, the more you learn about Beard, a/k/a Adam Moran, the more you will learn that he is a body builder.  He lifts weights for about 2 hours per day and he can metabolize all that food, but only once in a while.  When he's not doing these eating competitions, he eats a healthy diet of veggies, protein and carbs.

Are you up to try the Poutine challenge?  Call me before you do.  I'll come watch!
