A self-employed Manchester truck driver was shot dead near the entrance to two shopping areas Saturday afternoon.

Attorney General John Formella said Manchester police responded around 3:25 p.m. to reports that a man had been shot on South Willow Street at Kaye Street, the road that leads into South Willow Plaza on the right side of the road and the Mall of New Hampshire on the left.

Officers found Dzemal Cardakovic, 45, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formella said Tyrese Harris, 22, of Manchester was later arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder for:

  • Knowingly causing the death of Cardakovic by shooting him with a firearm.
  • Alternatively, for recklessly causing the death of Cardakovic under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life.

Harris' arraignment has not been scheduled by Hillsborough County Superior Court.

Formella did not disclose the circumstances of the shooting.

A picture from the scene showed a tent set up in front of the cab of a tractor trailer parked on South Willlow Street at the light for Kaye Street and the mall entrance.

Report: Shot After Confrontation

Journalist Jeffrey Hastings reported via Patch that according to a witness, Cardakovic was shot after getting out of his truck to speak with the driver of another vehicle.  A commenter to the Rockingham Alert Facebook page wrote that she drove by seconds after the incident and saw a man lying in the street in front of the truck.

The translation of a GoFundMe page that collected over $22,000 in 11 hours said Cardakovic was married with two sons and a daughter. According to his Facebook page, he was a self-employed trucker originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Donations to the page will help the family with funeral and other "financial burdens" resulting from the shooting.
