Japan showing yet again why they are so far ahead of us.

At first glance this idea does sound a bit wacky, and it's yet another restroom I would never consider using.

Unless I was one of the 19,000 elevators that stopped working the other day when a magnitude-8.1 earthquake hit south of Tokyo.

People were trapped all over the city, with some taking over 2 hours to get rescued. And that is pretty quick. There have been power outages due to earthquakes in Japan were people had been stuck for days.

So Japan's higher ups are looking into the feasibility of outfitting their elevators with toilets to help ease the awful situation of being trapped in an elevator for hours, maybe days.

A case in point where an idea coming from Japan at first looks laughable, but could save lives, or at least some people's sense of smell.
