Some students in Seabrook will not have to wear masks when classes begin on Aug. 31.

SAU 21 Superintendent Meredith Nadeau said K-8 students will have the option of wearing masks while they are at school, but children will have to wear them on school busses.

Since Seabrook sends their high school students to Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, those students will be required to wear masks in school.

In Hampton Falls, North Hampton and South Hampton masks are required while there is a substantial transmission of COVID.

Nadeau said other mitigation measures will be taken at SAU 21 schools, such as social distancing and frequent hand washing.

Nadeau said she understands that parents have opinions on both sides of the mask issue.

"People are very passionate on both sides of this issue and we recognize that," Nadeau said.

Nadeau gave State Epidemiologist Benjamin Chan and his team credit for providing superintendents with guidance throughout the pandemic. She said they are all "very responsive."
