Maine Jewelry Store Closes 2 Locations After 20 Years
Damariscotta, Maine
Well, that's a bummer. One of the coolest jewelry stores in Maine, Se Vende, has closed up the last two locations in Portland's Old Port and Damariscotta.
Se Vende has been in business for 20 years, according to their website, sevendeimports.com.
Olive, the owner shares a story about the beginning of the stores when her Mother, Sage, an avid traveler, was in Taxco, Mexico, traveling around the country in her Suzuki Sidekick, a/k/a Caro.
Sage purchased all kinds of sterling silver jewelry at a craft market and sent it to her daughter, Olive, who was working as a waitress at the time in Florida.
Olive sold the jewelry to her co-workers and anyone who was interested in buying it. It was a hit.
From that point, the two women sold the jewelry at Round Pond Harbor, Bristol, Maine in the Summer, and out of Olive's front room of her house in Damariscotta.
Opened in Portland, Maine in 2008
They opened up a location in the Old Port in 2008. Se Vende, meaning "For Sale," was spreading their sterling silver wings and heading to other parts of the World in search of wonderful products for their clients.
There was a Kennebunkport location for a while, but that had closed about three years ago.
When I shopped at Se Vende, I always appreciated the price point. The reason for that is that Olive and Sage bought directly from the artist, cut out the middleman and passed along the savings to their customers. They did buy from distributors sometimes, but made sure they were giving the artist a fair price for their work.
We'll miss the cool stuff, Olive and Sage!
