Anyone who has ever lost a pet knows that it feels like losing a member of your family. They aren't there to excitedly greet you and give you slobbery kisses when you walk through the door. They aren't there for a snuggle session on the couch after a long day. Their glaring absence feels like a literal hole in your heart ESPECIALLY during the first few weeks after their passing.

Recently I saw a quote that was 100% true. "Dog's lives are too short. It's their only fault, really" The unconditional love we get from our pets is so special we never want it to end.

Unfortunately, a brother and sister had to deal with the pain of losing their dog recently. But instead of sitting around feeling sorry for themselves, they decided to pay tribute to their beloved pet in the most compassionate way.

Emma and Elliot dropped off a generous donation to their local animal shelter; dog food, toys, treats and paper towels. The Manchester Animal Shelter shared this photo of the duo on their Facebook page:

A lot of grown adults wouldn't think to do this amazing act of kindness! Clearly, these are two very special kids and their parents are raising them right!

Ema and Elliot - I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your dog. May your sweet memories with him/her comfort you during this difficult time. I hope you know what an amazing example you are setting for the kids in your community. God bless you!

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
