On Monday, February 10, 2025, Mass General Brigham Hospital announced it will lay off hundreds of employees within the next two months.

This is the largest layoff in the hospitals history, according to the Boston Globe.

The aim of the layoffs is to cut employee cost by over $200 million dollars which equates to 2% of its salary and benefit costs.

Will MGH Layoffs Affect New Hampshire?

Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover is part of Mass General Brigham.  Could the announcement of layoffs affect the New Hampshire employees?

That's the big question.

This past November, WDH was named "among America's Best Neurological Hospitals by Newsweek," according to their website.  At that time, the President and COO of the hospital, Darin Roark said;

At Wentworth-Douglass, we take immense pride in our staff's unwavering devotion to delivering the highest standards of neurological care, and this recognition reflects the outstanding dedication, expertise, and compassionate care provided by our remarkable team.

With any business organization, layoffs are unsettling for those who still are employed.  There must be a feeling of, "am I next?"

Getting "Let Go" From Your Job is Devastating

I have been in that circumstance of "we're sorry, we're going in a different direction."  It was devastating.

I remember I dyed my hair black and went into full on panic-mode.  In hindsight, I was lucky.  There was no way I was going to fail with my family behind me like they were, but at the time, it felt like my little world was caving in.

All the best to all the employees in MA and NH of MGH/Brigham and Wentworth Douglass.  It's gonna be okay.
