A Barrington motorcyclist is being treated for life-threatening injuries at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after he collided with a Ford Mustang at a Rochester intersection some people are saying is dangerous.

Joseph Ford, 21, was thrown from the 2016 Harley Davidson touring motorcycle he was riding westbound on Washington Street when he collided with Michael Selig, 61, of Hull, Mass., on Sunday morning.

Selig was driving a 2011 Ford Mustang and was turning onto Washington Street from Estes Road, according to Rochester police officials.

Emergency rescue crews were called at about 9:40 a.m. When they arrived, the car and motorcycle were in the intersection and Ford was lying on the ground, according to police.

Ford was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Selig was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester with non-life-threatening injuries.

Selig had a passenger in the car who was not transported to the hospital.

Washington Street was shut down for about 3 1/2 hours while the Strafford County Regional Technical Accident Reconstruction Team performed an investigation. Those results have not yet been released and local police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

After police posted information about the crash on Facebook Monday morning, a number of people commented that the intersection where Ford was seriously injured is a dangerous one.

A traffic light was suggested, along with having the intersection fixed.

There were 102 reactions, 51 comments and 29 shares within the first two hours.

Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said on Monday afternoon that officials have looked into the safety of the intersection at Washington Street and Estes Road in the past. He reported that officers from his department respond frequently to calls for service from that area.
