Jordan Marsh in Boston, Massachusetts, Used to Serve Blueberry Muffins

I may sound old as dirt, but if you remember this, you are too, so we're in good company.

Jordan Marsh, a popular clothing store that was eaten up by Macy's, used to serve blueberry muffins.  They were the most delicious.

I remember going into the Bedford, New Hampshire, location, and the whole store smelled like my mother's kitchen.  It was wonderful.

Since then, the "Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffin" recipe has made its way online, as everything does.  The recipe calls for ingredients that every New England house had (or has) in the pantry: butter, sugar, eggs, milk, baking powder, salt, and vanilla.

With these ingredients, you can make any muffin flavor you want.  For the Jordan Marsh muffins, you obviously need to add the blueberries.

I remember those muffins being free, but I can't find anything online that confirms that.  It may be because I was just a little kid and my mother paid for them, but I can't confirm that, because my mother is dead (may she rest).  She loved that place, too.

Did Montgomery Ward in Nashua do this as well?

I seem to remember going in with my mother and getting muffins from Montgomery Ward, too.  That building is now the New Hampshire Liquor Store at the Nashua Mall, which I think is the best one.

You can get brands from that location that you can't get anywhere else (or so I'm told).

Why don't other New England stores do this?

I think Bob's Discount Furniture used to have the best snacks, but that stopped during the pandemic, and I'm not sure if it's back yet.  I would love to see stores do this on a regular basis again, but I think those times have passed.  That would mean a whole other list of things that the store would have to get help for, and nobody wants to work anymore, so we'll have to make our own damn muffins.

Do you remember getting snacks at stores like this when you were a kid?
