I am the youngest of 7 Baby Boomers and the only one that is characterized as Generation X. My siblings, however, went by the code of the Baby Boomer. It's a wonder any of them ever survived.
Baby Boomers are defined as people who were born between the years of 1946 - 1964. There is a reason why people in this age group are self-sufficient and hard-working. They had to take care of themselves as kids and sometimes, the whole family.
There Were No Screens, no iPads or iPhones
Back in the '70's and much of the '80's, there were no cell phones, no iPads or laptops. No Netflix to be found and if you were lucky, you had a friend who had their license and could borrow the car from Mom and Dad. Boomers had to find a way to entertain themselves.
Toys were not put under scrutiny back in the day the way they are today. Parents were a) supposed to be the supervisor in all circumstances and b) let you play with whatever you wanted.
What Does the Term "Latch Key Kid" Mean?
Many New Hampshire Boomers remember when you were dropped off from school and you let yourself in the door you had to "latch the door" until Mom and Dad came home.

Hitchhiking Was a Big Thing in New Hampshire in the '70's
One story from my family is when my brother hitchhiked from Nashua, New Hampshire to Fairbanks, Alaska with his Golden Retriever, Casey. He did run into some situations, but none of them involved people who may have kidnapped him. Not so today.
