How New Hampshire Eliminating Vehicle State Inspections Will Affect Us
What is this? Florida?
As of January 30, 2026, you will no longer have to get a state inspection of your vehicle here in New Hampshire, according to accomplishedauto.com.
3 Things to be Aware of When NH State Inspections Go Away
- NH Police officers will be hyper vigilant to cars on the road that may be "beater boxes." This will place more responsibility on them, however, after watching all those cop shows, maybe it will lead to catching bad guys.
- The safety laws for maintaining good brakes and a good exhaust stay in place.
- It will be up to us to maintain our brakes, tire safety, emission controls, (which I wouldn't have a clue about other than a big cloud of smoke coming from the back of my car) and all lights have to be working.
If a light is out, I foresee the only way I would know is if a police officer stops me and tells me about it. Same way for the exhaust.
I feel pretty confident about knowing when I need new brakes because I'll hear the crunching of the brake pads, but that doesn't seem like the best way to monitor that.

I lived in Florida, which has no inspection requirements. 95 was littered with car parts.
Another user said:
I spent 7 years in a no-inspection state and I don’t ever remember hearing about an accident caused by unsafe cars. Unsafe drivers? Absolutely!
According to cbsnews.com, with this latest ruling, only 13 states in America will require yearly state inspections and emissions.
