(Portsmouth, N.H.) - A Portsmouth police officer helped pull a suicidal woman off the edge of the interstate 95 bridge last night.

The incident was reported to police at 8:55 p.m. by a man who was driving on the southbound side of the bridge, which crosses the Piscataqua River from Kittery, Maine and into Portsmouth. The witness phoned police to report that he saw a car parked on the bridge and a woman climbing over the railing and onto a platform above the river. Officer Garrett Drew, who was in the area,   and the witness were able to pull the woman back onto the main portion of the bridge. Police say she was then taken to the hospital "To get the help she needs” The woman is reportedly from Maine.

Conservative Texas Senator Ted Cruz heads north today with a stop in Lincoln as he continues his first visit to New Hampshire, hoping his vision of smaller government resonates with voters here. Yesterday, Cruz's schedule included a town hall forum with several of the questions amounting to statements encouraging him to seek the white house.
