Price of Eggs in Maine, NH & MA Expected to “Get Much Worse”
Well, this is great news for Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. NOT.
The price of eggs, according to apnews.com, the U.S. Agriculture Department predicts record high egg prices in 2025. The prices could rise more than 40%.
No Birds, No Eggs
Egg prices have hit an all time high of $4.95 per dozen, the article states, however, I've seen them for a lot higher here in New Hampshire, depending on what brand.
I've seen the cost of eggs at over $12.00 for a dozen. What?!
Bird Flu Spreading in New England
More than 166 million birds have been killed due to bird flu, most of those birds were egg-laying chickens. This year alone, another 30 million birds have been killed, the ap article states.
There is a Plan to Help
The article states that the Trump administration is investing $500 million dollars to help farmers with biosecurity, another $400 million for farmers who have been hit by bird flu and another $100 million for research.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has already paid approximately $1.2 billion to farmers for the birds they had to kill.
Is that going to help? I have no idea.
Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Local Farms Are The Places To Go
Lately, I've been buying my eggs at a local farm.
Getting your eggs at a small, local farm is a win/win. You help your own finances and you surely help the farmer.
Time to Become Vegan?
What you put in your mouth should be nobody's business but your own. Having said that, however, going vegan could have it's own issues like, if your body needs more iron, you would have to eat a whole bunch of veggies to get what you need.
Also, when I became vegan for a hot minute, I gained a lot of weight. There are plenty of bad foods you can eat that have zero animal products. Think sugar, flour, etc.
Tendercrop Farms in Dover has had decent prices of eggs recently, but even they have increased their prices.
