Recruit Dies on First Day at NH Police Academy

A recruit at the New Hampshire Police Academy died, although it was not during a class or on their property in Concord.

The announcement on the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council's Facebook page said the death is being investigated by the State Police Major Crimes Unit. The circumstances of the death and the recruit's identity were not disclosed.

"New Hampshire Police Academy's condolences go out to the recruit's family, friends and anyone affected by this heartbreak," read the message.

PSTC Director John Scippa said in a statement obtained by InDepthNH.org that the death of the recruit, a member of the the 190th police academy, came as a shock.

He told the Union Leader that it was the recruit's first day of class for the 16-week program.

Grief support was being provided at the Academy on Wednesday.

Schippa also said that anyone who finds themselves in distress should take advantage of the many resources available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including the 988 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
