Reddit User Says This New Hampshire Hike May Be The ‘Best Bang for Your Buck’ on East Coast
Hikers love a challenge. That's half the reason why they do it.
This New Hampshire hike is not even close to climbing a mountain like Mount Everest or NH"s Mount Washington, but it is challenging nonetheless.
The Pemi Loop in NH is the the Best Hike in the White Mountains
This is not a hike that you take lightly. You have to prepare for this multi-day, 31 mile loop, but it is worth it. One Reddit user said it might be the best hike on the East Coast. Here's more of what they said:
I've hiked a lot of East Coast trails mostly in the North East but I think I can say this is my favorite 30 miles. It's just a lot of bang for your buck.
The 31 mile loop takes you over several peaks in the White Mountains, the first of which is Mt Liberty standing at more than 4,000 feet. The hiking can be challenging at times, but the online comments all say that the views are worth it.
Check out this YouTube video from Jeff Fowler's experience on the loop. It is a good representation of what you might be in for.
There are 8 4,000 footers in the Pemi Loop. According to burgeonoutdoor.com they are:
- Mt. Flume: 4,328 feet
- Mt. Liberty: 4,459 feet
- Mt. Lincoln: 5,089 feet
- Mt. Lafayette: 5,260 feet
- Mt. Garfield: 4,500 feet
- South Twin: 4,902 feet
- Mt. Bond: 4,698 feet
- Bondcliff: 4,265 feet
If you are trying to knock out all 48 4,000 footers in NH, this is a good place to start, but this trail is NOT for hiking beginners. It is a good place to start for people who want to start overnight hiking. It's not easy, but there is a "bailout" spot about halfway through.
I love, love, love to hike. Sometimes, it can be grueling, but most of the time, the reward Mother Nature gives you is worth every blister.
