Help Is on the Way

3 Wallace Street in Rochester will soon be a safe space for youth and young adults ages 12-25 who need a place to live in the Rochester, Somersworth, Dover (Tri-City) area, according to rochesternhnews.net.

Homelessness Has Spiked Since Before The Pandemic

The report says that approximately 14,000 - 15,000 young people will be homeless this year in NH.

The Building Will Have So Much More Than a Place to Stay For Young People

The building will serve many young people in different circumstances, not just homelessness.  They will have a laundromat, showers, food, clothes, charging stations for phones, and much-needed peer support.

Education and Employment Help Also Will Be Available

Young people who need help with education and employment may also find their help at the new Lilac City location.

Waypoint is the New Owner

You might not yet know the name of Waypoint, but I bet you've heard of Child & Family Services.  They are now Waypoint.

According to Rochesternhnews.net, the Manager of the Homeless Youth and Young Adult Services, Mandy Lancaster, said;

This expansion project is urgently needed.  Currently, Waypoint’s Street Outreach staff are supporting over 100 young adults in the Tri-City and Seacoast region. There are youth in our communities who need additional support and a community plan that is responsive to their needs.  A drop-in center is a primary ingredient in truly addressing youth and young adult housing instability.  This was the logical next step.

The Home Will Be Open Sometime in 2022

The need is great, so the opening of the new space could not come quick enough.  They are set to open in early 2022.
