Sabra Recalls Hummus For Possible Listeria

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, "The company has identified Listeria monocytogenes at one of its manufacturing facilities". However, the bacteria has yet to be found in its tested finished products.

The products were distributed to retail outlets in the United States and Canada, according to the FDA, and have a “Best Before” date through Jan. 23, 2017. Consumers who are concerned they purchased one of the recalled products can find the date on the lid of each package, and are urged to throw out the potentially contaminated products.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are also at risk. A Listeria infection has been known to cause miscarriages and stillbirths. Symptoms usually include a high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
