Ahead of the holidays, tragic news right hits the Southern Maine community.

According to NECN, Maine State Police reported a city employee was struck and killed by the bucket truck he had been driving while he and another worker were hanging Christmas wreaths. Authorities are not releasing the name of the individual, but the two men were hanging wreaths on light poles Monday afternoon outside Springvale District Court on Main Street. Springvale is considered to be the village of Sanford. Grief counselors have been brought in to help the man's co-workers, according to Sanford City Manager Steven Buck.

The incident took place in broad daylight, and many people witnessed the event, and it's aftermath. According to one woman who wanted to remain anonymous, everyone in the community is thinking of the families involved, telling NECN "I hope they find some sort of peace. I hope everybody that was involved finds some sort of peace," the woman said. "That's something that's going to take a long time to get over."

A second city employee was in the bucket of the truck, and wasn't injured.
