People don’t want to talk about suicide. It makes them feel beyond sad and uncomfortable. But if we never talk about it, how can we prevent it?

My family has experienced the pain of losing someone from suicide. It left us with questions about what we could have done to prevent it, why we didn't see it coming and so many other thoughts.

It's time for us to make a difference and join in the fight against suicide, to raise awareness, and to support those affected by it.

And you can help by participating in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness walk in Portsmouth on Saturday, Oct. 3.

While the walks may look a little different this year, the message is still very the same: Save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

The New Hampshire Out of the Darkness Experience allows you to choose your own course, what time you start, and who walks next to you (within social distancing guidelines, of course)! To be able to join in on one of these walks is just one easy way to have an impact in the fight against suicide and show how strong and resilient a united community can be.

And if you can't walk, that's OK, too, as you can make a donation at The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention website. Every little bit helps.

Mental health and suicide prevention are more important than ever during these uncertain times, and with your help we can reach more people than ever before.

You, too, can make a difference.
