Stop & Shop Announces Massachusetts Closing of 8 Locations
Stop & Shop has announced it will close 32 "underperforming" stores, according to supermarketnews.com, on or before November 2, 2024, including eight Massachusetts locations. The closings reflect a move to restructure the company.

The closing list does not include the locations in Amesbury, Andover, and North Andover, Massachusetts.
Here's a Google Maps screenshot of the Stop & Shop locations in our area:
According to supermarketnews.com, here are the Massachusetts locations which are slated to close:
- 932 North Montello St., Brockton
- 36 New State Highway, Raynham
- 341 Plymouth St., Halifax
- 539-571 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury
- 165 Needham St., Newton (bfresh Market)
- 415 Cooley St., Springfield (1600 Boston Rd. and 1277 Liberty St., Springfield will remain open)
- 545 Lincoln St. Worcester (940 West Boylston St. and 949 Grafton St., Worcester will remain open)
- 24 Mattakeesett St., Pembroke (125 Church St., Pembroke will remain open)
The article mentioned that these locations were "underperforming," which is always reason enough to close. It could be for the same reasons why other businesses have been losing money, like the cost of getting products to the store, employee cost, insurance, etc.
The grocery store wars seem to be in full effect. The "discount" grocery stores like Aldi and Trader Joe's seem to be thriving. Of course they are. Inflation is killing us, so if Stop & Shop needs to restructure, I sure hope that means cutting prices for the customers.
