Yesterday, when I was driving home, I passed what used to be the Epping House of Pizza.  It had closed a few months ago, much to the dismay of their chicken finger fans.

I was excited to see a sign going up that said, "Hugo's" with a Mexican hat.  My assumption, and a good one if I do say so myself, is that another Mexican restaurant is going in.

Epping Already Has Two Mexican Restaurants

Taco Bell doesn't count.

  • My Cielo Taqueria, Epping, NH:  This is the place you pass by when you are going to either Lowe's or Walmart in Epping.  It's that small plaza on the right as you drive in.  Game Stop is there too.
  • Cinco's Cantina, Epping, NH:  This is one of three Cinco's on the NH Seacoast.  There are two others, one in Dover and the latest one, which is BEAUTIFUL, is in Rochester.  I've had their food (and drinks) many, many times and it's delicious.

So, I ask you.  Does Epping need another Mexican place?

Maybe.  Here's why:

The two Mexican restaurants named above are nice places where you settle in for lunch or dinner.  You order a drink or two.  These two places would be a good choice for your Mexican food loving friends to get together and enjoy each other's company.

Hugo's may not be that kind of place.

If you are familiar with the area, or if you ever went in to the Epping House of Pizza, you know there is not a lot of room for parking or for people to sit down and eat.  So, maybe Hugo's will be more of a grab and go sort of Mexican food place.

Another thought occurred to me.  If there are two Mexican restaurants already in Epping and they are doing well, maybe there is room for another one.  It's like when fancy restaurants open up in the same area of town.  That section becomes known for the fancy places.

Epping may be the place for great Mexican food choices.
