The Most Popular Halloween Movie in Each New England State

People from other parts of the country have a tendency to group all six New England states together as one. Based on our favorite Halloween candies, that’s actually a pretty fair assessment. But how do things shake out when we’re talking Halloween movies?

The website Wishlisted.com used data from Rotten Tomatoes and Google Trends to compile a list of most popular Halloween movies in every single state. Here are New England’s favorites:

MAINE: “Misery” (1989).
If a Stephen King film hadn’t finished first in the author’s home state, he’d probably go spend the day in bed himself, or change his name back to Richard Bachman and start a new life.

VERMONT: “They Live” (1987).
After hearing good things from New Englanders who made it big in WWE, Rowdy Roddy Piper came to Vermont for two reasons: to eat Ben & Jerry’s, and kick ass. Luckily, there was plenty of Ben & Jerry’s.

NEW HAMPSHIRE: “Fear Street Part Two: 1978.”
As a native New Hampshirite, this one took me surprise, as admittedly, I’d never heard of this film. So, imagine my shame when I learned it’s based on a book trilogy by childhood favorite R.L. Stine. Maybe I’ll check it out, but I’m still waiting for someone to make a movie about New Hampshire’s real-life terror: the Devil Monkey of Danville.

MASSACHUSETTS: “Jaws.”
I’m still not sure what’s crazier: that people kept going in the water, or that a shark thought the best place to hang out is a region known for devouring seafood.

RHODE ISLAND: “The Conjuring.”
Now this makes sense, as Rhode Island is the location of the actual house from “The Conjuring.” Haven’t seen the movie? Here’s a little background info before you visit.

CONNECTICUT: “Border.”
Of course Connecticut goes for the foreign film – a Swedish tale about a woman with psychic abilities. Hopefully, she’ll use them to curse the houses giving out Almond Joys.
