This Iconic Portsmouth Restaurant Has Been Chosen as Most Romantic in New Hampshire for 2025
I don't know anyone from the Portsmouth, New Hampshire area that doesn't know Ristorante Massimo located on Penhallow Street.
According to Open Table, Ristorante Massimo is one of the Top 100 in the U.S. considered most romantic. The only one in New Hampshire to be chosen.
It's All About the Love at Massimo's
The second you walk in, you get the feeling that you should be there with the one you love. The lights are slightly dimmed, there are no windows that I can remember, just you and the gaze of your loved one.
The service is, as you can imagine, spectacular. At Massimo's they will know what you want before you even ask for it.
Massimo's is the place to go to:
- Pop the Question: The Staff will be happy to be part of the surprise
- Say Your Sorry: If you're in hot water, Massimo's homemade pasta and meatballs will get you out of any jam.
- Celebrate Your Anniversary: This has become a tradition for many couples to share another trip around the sun for their relationship.
Open Table gives Massimo's a 4.8 rating. It's wicked good.

Massimo's is named after the owner, Massimo Morgia. According to ristorantemassimo.com, Massimo was born in Italy and started working in restaurants at the age of 13. Food, serving it fresh to his patrons and giving you a night you won't forget anytime soon, is everything to him.
This YouTube video is a pretty good walk through Portsmouth, NH if you aren't familiar. It doesn't show Massimo's but it's not far from this area.
I have been to Massimo's many times and like everyone who has been there, you will see him, dressed in a suit and making sure every part of that place runs smooth as silk.
Massimo knows that if you choose his place for your next romantic outing, he's going to make sure you will come back.
It's worked for me. Just writing this has given me a huge craving to his meatballs, homemade bread, with a nice glass of Montepulciano Red Wine.
