With the official start of winter, lots of money is expected to pour into the state.

Ripping down a slope at one of the state's ski resorts, hiking hundreds of miles of trails, aimlessly driving through the White Mountains, riding a snowmobile over the thousands of miles of maintained trails, and many other outdoor activities dominate the Granite State over the winter months. These escapes from the regular grind pump tons of money into the state, and it's projected to be a billion dollar year.

Taylor Caswell, commissioner, New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs told WMUR News 9, "During the winter season, visitors can experience world class skiing and riding, unique culinary experiences, tax-free shopping, and the beautiful scenery New Hampshire is known for.''

Where are people coming from? WMUR News 9 reported the department will launch a new advertising campaign next month tageting Boston, Providence, Portland, Maine, and other cities within driving distance.

It doesn't hurt some of the most affordable skiing is in the state.
