Despite a nicotine ban for new hires in 21 states, you can still get a job with the delivery giant locally.

It's 2020, and if you're New Years resolution was to get a new job, U-Haul has limited that opportunity in 21 states.

According to CNN, U-Haul said it will stop hiring people who use nicotine in the 21 states where companies are allowed to consider tobacco use when making hiring decisions.

What does this mean for New England?

Well, Massachusetts and Vermont are out for new hires.

However, the other four states including New Hampshire and Maine are still fine if your day includes multiple smoke breaks.

If you already have a U-Haul career in the affected states, the new policy does not apply to you, as current employees who may smoke or use nicotine in some other manner are grandfathered in. In the affected states, applicants must consent to submit to nicotine screening to be considered for employment.

Only Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Washington prohibit testing for nicotine use, according to CNN.

U-Haul's chief of staff Jessica Lopez said in a statement "this policy is a responsible step in fostering a culture of wellness at U-Haul, with the goal of helping our team members on their health journey."

By the way, you can't smoke in a U-Haul truck...in any state. According to CNN, they already had a no-smoking policy for their 167,000 trucks.
