Every time I look at this wall, instead of seeing the numbers that are there, I see one that is missing.

How and why isn't Dwight Evans' #24 been retired by the Red Sox?

With all the attention, deservedly so, today surrounding the death of Bobby Doerr, it got me to thinking of the retired numbers on the Red Sox wall, and one omission.

All I know is it seemed whenever the game was on the line and the Red Sox needed a hit, Dewey Evans delivered almost every time.

And he seemed to make the highlight reel at least once a week during his 20 year career in right field with the Red Sox.

Much like my dismay that the J.Geils Band isn't in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, I feel that Dwight Evans at the very least belongs in the Red Sox Hall of Fame.
