Will I Go To Jail If I Don’t Fill Out The 2019 Census?

I don't want to fill out the census.  Does this mean that I may go to jail over it?

I can picture it now....

"Hey, whaddya you in for?"

"Moidah.  Whaddya you in for?"

"I didn't fill out the census."

Okay, I just looked it up.  Turns out, I'm not going to have to do time if I don't fill out the census.  A while back, I may have run the risk of a 60 day prison sentence, but according to slate.com, congress shut that down in 1976.  The most that can happen to me now is I could get a big 'ol fine up to $5,000.

You may or may not recall, but a few months ago, someone tried to steal my identity.  I was tipped off by a Victoria Secret credit card appearing in my mailbox and since I'm not a Vicky fan, (no offense to those who are) I knew something fishy was going on.  So how do I know that I'm sending ALL OF MY INFORMATION about my entire life and everyone I live with to the right people?  It makes me uncomfortable.

Don't get me wrong.  I'll do it, but I think it's my 603, LIVE FREE OR DIE roots that is making me a little nervous.
