Will Punxsutawney Phil See His Shadow On Super Bowl Sunday?

This year, Groundhog Day, which is always observed on February 2nd, falls on Super Bowl Sunday. It marks the 134th annual Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsutawney, Pennysylvania, when people from all over the world will watch Punxsutawney Phil predict the weather, based on whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow during the yearly ritual. Punxsutawney Phil is known as the Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinary. With all of these prestigious titles (but no meteorology degree), one would think Punxsutawney Phil would be fairly accurate with his weather predictions.

Last year, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, predicting an early spring, according to Newsweek. However, the rodent was wrong. Phil's predictions have been correct 40 percent of the time since 2010, according to the NCEI via Newsweek. If that is the case, perhaps we have a 40% chance he'll get it right this year. Personally, I'm hoping for an early spring.
