The Stories about Nashua, NH in the 80's are True

Many stories of Nashua, NH are not fit for public knowledge.  It was a wild, wild ride and to be honest, some of the details are hazy, but it was a great time to be alive.  And I'm glad I still am.... alive.

Pine Street Market

Around 1974-ish, my parents bought a building in Nashua.  Upstairs was an apartment and downstairs on the street level was a little corner grocery store.  A "Mom and Pop" where you could buy beer, hostess cup cakes and homemade Gorton made by our meat man weekly.

Nashua Kids Got Away With a Lot

Back in the 80's, parents used to write a note that they gave to their children to take to the corner store that said;

Please allow my daughter Charlene buy two packs of Marlboro Box cigarettes for me.  Thank you.

Charlene would hand over the money and we'd hand her the ciggies.  Sometimes the note wasn't from Charlene's mother.  It was written by her dirt-bag boyfriend Kevin.  We didn't know the difference or didn't care.

Nashua Kids Waited for and Witnessed the Birth of MTV

August 1, 1981, Nashua kids waited for the much anticipated Music Television.  We were glued to the TV until you had to stop to ride your bike to your part time job at Rozumek's IGA in Simoneau Plaza on Main Street.

Cruising Around Nashua

One of the pastimes of Nashua kids was cruising around the city.  Parents just didn't worry as much as they do today.  We graduated from riding our bikes to riding in a borrowed car with whoever got their license first.

My friend Lucie, still my good friend today, was the first one to get her license.  Her Father, Victor, gave her a car, God Bless Him and off we went.

It was a big, BIG day when we decided to go to Hampton Beach and cruise the Boulevard.

Enjoy the list and if I've forgotten anything, please feel free to reach out and let me know.  I'll wait for you in my sister's 1977 Plymouth Fury cranking a 1984 Purple Rain tape.
