Changes are Coming to Several New Hampshire Restaurants
Within the last several months, the 'Skip the Straw' movement has taken on a life of its' own.
It's becoming more and more popular at restaurants and bars around the country including right here in New England to ban single-use straws. Some places are skipping them all together or replacing them with re-usable and recyclable straws, all in an effort to protect the environment.
It was last year, the Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation wrote an article on how dangerous plastic straws are to marine life.
Now, comes word that Starbucks plans to eliminate plastic straws from it's locations globally by the year 2020. McDonald's recently announced it would switch to paper straws overseas by next year and will begin testing alternatives here in the states.
An article from WMUR says environmental activists have been pressuring businesses to ditch plastic straws because they can end up in the ocean and hurt marine life.
Approximately 40 restaurants in Maine and New Hampshire are on board with the 'Skip the Straw' movement. This, according to WMUR.
