Duston’s Deli in Dover Has A Brutally Honest Phone Message
Not only did I order a delicious buffalo chicken wrap at Duston's Bakery and Deli today, I was thoroughly entertained by their brutally honest phone directory message.
Hi! You've reached Duston's.
Please note if at any point throughout this message, or while you are waiting on hold, you are asked to leave a voicemail?
It lies.
There is no voicemail.
Please do not leave an order on it, because we don't have access to it.
Sorry for the confusion and Thank You!
- Duston's Bakery and Deli Phone Directory Message
The message goes on to list specials and 'Press one to make your order', I did just that, and a friendly human took my order and my expertly crafted wrap was waiting for me there without incident.
I love every bit of this message because it prepares the customer in case of a technical snafu that is outside of everyone's control.
I could easily see myself falling in the trap and mistakenly talking to an evil voicemail, only to have my usual order of a buffalo chicken wrap, no onions on wheat, go unanswered and be lost forever in another dimension.
But that will never happen because of this great advisory!
I've been ordering from Duston's since I started working at The Shark nearly 20 years ago and for most of those years their phone would be answered at the front of the store, you'd ask for the deli and they'd transfer you out back.
This new method is far more effective as well as entertaining!
I've attached the original audio because I think the timing and delivery of this message is too good not to hear for yourself.
I apologize for the first part breaking up a bit. My phone has terrible service. Wow. Being honest about technical problems feels so good!
Thanks Duston's!
