Williamsburg, Massachusetts

If you go onto Main Street, U.S.A. in many towns, you may find the small businesses that used to be the only General store in town. In Massachusetts, Williamsburg General Store has been named the "most charming" in the entire Commonwealth, according to lovefood.com.

These stores are not as prevalent as they used to be. Imagine a scene like the ones in "Little House on the Prairie" when Mr. Oleson, the man who ran the store, could get you anything you wanted, from flour to fancy clothes.  (Side note, his daughter, Nellie Oleson, was the meanest character on the show.  She was a good actress.  I was not a fan.)

At the General Store, you could even get an anniversary gift for your wife to get you out of the doghouse.

The Williamsburg General Store has all kinds of gifts and jewelry, but the thing that they are known for is the food.

Love Food said that patrons will be greeted by a beautiful sight of all the things they have for sale, but your nose will get the biggest treat.  The delicious smells coming from the bakery almost guarantee that you will be buying some of their tasty treats.

The Williamsburg General Store is famous for "wrapples," which are similar to apple tarts and they are unique to the town.

Worth the Drive from New Hampshire to Williamsburg, Massachusetts

Although we have some really cute, nostalgic stores on the Seacoast, Calef's Country Store in Barrington, New Hampshire comes to mind, it's always fun to get out of your own backyard for a minute and discover a new place.

Williamsburg, Massachusetts is less than three hours from Portsmouth, not far from Northhampton, Amherst, Massachusetts area.  The Williamsburg General Store website says that customers today will walk on the same oak floor boards that people walked on 140 years ago.

Sounds like a cool road trip.  Have you ever been?
