Mid-Coast Maine Small Business Owner Allegedly Gets Robbed of Cash Including Employee Tips
The Owl's Head General Store in Owl's Head, Maine, was reportedly robbed over the weekend.
The owner, Maya Newsam Sousa, is married to a middle school teacher, Austin Sousa, who has the majority of his family in Gloucester, Massachusetts. They just had a baby boy, Theodore James Sousa, who is 2 months old.
Someone allegedly broke into the store through the window, broke into the cash register and took over $1,000 cash. Some of the reported money stolen was cash tips for her employees.
When the baker came in very early in the morning on Sunday, they reportedly scared the culprit away.

When it was announced on the Owl's Head General Store's Facebook page, there were many who said that Maya should start a GoFundMe account. Many other comments were of support.
$1,000 may not seem like a lot of money to some, but even if she gets every penny back, it's going to cost Maya more than that. She will have to repair the cash register, the window and consider investing in a top-notch security system, just to name a few things. Something she never thought she would have to do in Owl's Head, Maine.
On a personal note, Maya is my step-daughter. To say that she has worked so hard to provide for the community, her family and her employees is an understatement.
To be robbed is not just about the money, it feels personal. It's an invasion on a very deep level.
Make no mistake; whatever comes of this, Maya will come back stronger than ever. That's what she does, that's who she is and she has a whole army of supporters to help her.
