It's Started at the 2023 Special Olympics

Scott told me that he received the Gold Medal at Waterville Valley in the 2023 Winter Special Olympics games and that was the beginning of consideration to be on the Special Olympics USA 2025 team.

Scott said that he found out he was on the team on a call with his family present.  Everyone was so excited for him.

It feels fantastic! Scott said.

Scott will have family with him in Italy.  He said his Uncle Paul and Aunt Rita will be flying out.  They are from Rindge, New Hampshire.  Scott's Dad and his two sisters will also be going to cheer him on.

Laconia, NH Police Officer R. J. Bassett Will Be Joining Scott in Italy

Mark Ericson of SONH said that police officers from all over America and the world will spend a week going across Italy until they run the torch in to the Opening Ceremonies on March 8, 2025.  Laconia Police Officer R. J. Bassett will participate in the Final Leg.

Scott has been an athlete with SONH for about 40 years. He’s an athlete leader who is always willing to help out at competitions and fundraising events. Most recently, he co-hosted the Penguin Plunge weekend events at Hampton Beach with Kevin Skarupa and Mike Haddad from WMUR-TV.  Mark Ericson, Senior Manager, of SONH

What is Scott Looking Forward To in Italy?

Scott said that he wants to learn a new language like, how to say, "Buongiorno!" ("Good Morning") and "Mi Scusi" or "Scusa," which means "excuse me" in English.

You'll need this word if you bump in to someone.

Scott Has a Dream to Meet John Cena

John Cena has been an inspiration to Scott.  He just loves John Cena's "never give up" attitude.

"If you have a dream, go after it."  John Cena

When Scott told me he was on the Special Olympics NH Board of Directors in 2011-2014, he said, "I was the voice for the people who couldn't speak for themselves."
