New Hampshire One Step Closer to Legalizing Marijuana

Last week, the New Hampshire Senate passed a House-approved bill to legalize marijuana in the State of New Hampshire by a vote of 14-9.  Next stop is the governor's desk.  Governor Sununu has long been "skeptical" about the legalization of marijuana, but recently, according to marijuanamoment.net, he said that he would sign a bill that meets certain criteria.

There were lots of opinions with this Senate Session, including one person who said that if the bill passed, it would "change the fabric" of our state and hurt tourism.

Senator Sharon Carson, Republican Majority Leader, asked, "Where's the public?  Where's public input here?"

There was much to be unpacked with this bill, and if it becomes law, it's not clear to me if certain cities and towns could refuse to allow dispensaries.  If that's the case, then those little elections that no one shows up to could become really important.

This argument has come up many times before any state legalized marijuana, and my opinion has been the same.  If alcohol consumption is legal, then why in the holy hell isn't marijuana?  It doesn't make one lick of sense to me.  I mean, have you ever seen a violent stoner?  I would bet that you have, on the other hand, seen a violent drunk.

This is not coming from someone who smokes pot, by the way (I do not), but that wasn't always the case.  There was a time in my life that I did smoke a lot of it.  I decided that it wasn't for me anymore, because when I did smoke, I didn't want to do much other than eat and laugh.

One of my favorite sayings is, "You do you."  It's not for me, but it might be for you.
